24 hour residency #2
5-6 August 2018
For the second 24 hr Residency we were delighted to work with artists Bob Gelsthorpe, Helen Anna Flanagan, Libita Clayton, Natalie Ramus and Sophie Lindsey.
The artists spent 24 hours working in Spit & Sawdust trying out new ideas and experimenting. The residency was an opportunity to take risk and work intensively within a critical environment with no pressure for finished outcomes.
The Spit & Sawdust team stay throughout making sure the artists are supported and fed to be able to fully immerse themselves in their work.
After the Residency there was a public event where any artists that wanted to could present results of their work over the previous 24 hrs - as well as an opportunity for the public to experience the traces of what had happened.
Following the residency we supported two of the artists to develop projects from the resulting work.
Bob Gelsthorpe collaborated with Rhys Aneurin on ‘Don’t Wax the Coping’ making a structure to show his video work within, exhibiting it in the cafe space alongside work by Rebecca Wyn Kelly and Carlota Nobrega and initiating the Podlediad Cymylau Podcast.
Libita Clayton came back to perform ‘Thoughts in Order’ the following year, drawing on work from the residency and recent projects.
