refugee and asylum seeker skateboarding project
In 2018 we were very proud to work in partnership with Tros Gynnal Plant on a project offering free skateboarding lessons and sessions to refugees and asylum seekers.
The project was developed after we learned from Tros Gynnal Plant how access to sports, leisure and play is very limited for refugees and asylum seekers. Over several months the skatepark welcomed many learners, originally hailing from all across the world to come and try out something new, gain skills, and have fun. Each week we also offered a meal to everyone - sometimes our burgers, or sometimes cuisine from the refugees own countries. On one occasion our pizza shack was transformed into a bespoke taco kitchen where a fantastic family, originally hailing from Honduras, made and served their delicious homemade tacos to everyone.
The project was supported by a grant from Wales Millennium Stadium Charitable Fund.
